日本語の「従う」は一言ですが、英語では 相手・状況・ニュアンス によって使い分けるのが自然です。
以下では、ネイティブがよく使う表現をシーン別に分けて紹介します！
1️⃣ follow – 最も一般的な「従う・守る」
一番よく使う表現。
「人・ルール・指示」に従うときに万能。
👉 Follow the instructions.
（指示に従って。）
👉 I follow his advice.
（彼のアドバイスに従う。）

（ルールに従ってください。）
2️⃣ obey – 権威・強い「従う」
follow よりも “上下関係・義務感” が強い。
子ども、ペット、法律など。
👉 You must obey the law.
（法律に従わなければならない。）
👉 The dog obeys me well.
（その犬はよく言うことを聞く。）
👉 He never obeys his parents.
（彼は親の言うことを全く聞かない。）
3️⃣ comply with – フォーマルな「従う」「遵守する」
ビジネス・公的な場面でよく使われる。
👉 We must comply with regulations.
（規則に従わなければならない。）
👉 All employees must comply with the policy.
（従業員はポリシーに従う必要がある。）
4️⃣ go along with – 同意して「従う」
「反対せずについていく・同調する」。

人の判断に任せる、導きに従う感じ。

6️⃣ stick to / play by the rules – ルールに「従う」
ネイティブが日常でよく言う自然な表現。

7️⃣ respect – 「尊重して従う」ニュアンス
倫理・文化・意見に「従う」。
👉 We respect the decision.

8️⃣ take someone’s advice – 助言に「従う」
目的が「アドバイスなら」follow より自然。

→ 行列に入る →「従う」

→ 直訳「言われたとおりにする」＝従う

→ 「言うことをよく聞く」

⭐ yield (to) – 抵抗をやめて従う／譲る
精神的に「負ける・折れる」。
👉 He finally yielded to their demands.
（彼はついに彼らの要求に屈した。）
⭐ give in (to) – 日常会話で非常によく使う「折れる」「負けて従う」
